Affordable homes in the Stafford & Stone area

The Stafford and Stone area needs more good quality housing that people can afford - particularly those with young families.

Affordability needs to be directly addressed, building ever more houses is simply not the answer. We are committed to using tough planning rules to make sure that property developers introduce truly affordable housing. In Oxford, Green councillors campaigned long and hard to increased the proportion of affordable housing in new developments from 20% to 50%.

Before we look at building more and more new homes, we should look to make use of the 700,000 empty homes and that many more than are underused, in poor condition or in places of low economic activity.
